How much do progressive glasses cost? Prices 2026

Assistant prices checked on 15 October 2026 · All amounts in euros

If you are looking up how much progressive glasses cost, you probably want something more useful than “it depends”. You want to know what you will spend, what is included and whether paying more makes sense. I will start with the figures, then explain what I would check before choosing.

At OpticalH, a pair of Base progressive lenses starts at around €280; with hard coating and anti-reflective treatment, around €350. The frame is extra. With a €253 frame, for example, the two components add up to around €533 or €603 respectively. These are illustrative starting totals before shipping: your prescription, measurements and selected options determine the final quotation.

My first piece of advice is simple: whenever you see a progressive lens price, ask whether it covers one lens, both lenses or the complete glasses. That changes the whole comparison.

The complete price has two parts: the frame and the pair of lenses.

How much do complete progressive glasses cost? A worked example

To make the calculation easy to follow, I have picked a specific frame from the shop: the Cazal 7120 001 in size 55–19, priced at €253 when checked for this guide. Opening the prescription lens assistant and selecting the near-and-distance option brings up these starting choices:

Example componentsFrameTwo lensesIllustrative total
Base with hard coating€253From ~€280~€533
Base with hard coating and anti-reflective treatment€253From ~€350~€603

This example explains how the total works; it is not a recommendation to choose that frame. If you select another, substitute its price. Shipping and any price changes resulting from your configuration are still to be included.

You can browse frames for progressive glasses and compare frame prices before deciding how much to set aside for lenses.

What are you paying for when progressives cost more?

I would not choose lenses simply because they are called “premium”. First, I would want to understand what changes compared with the previous option and how that helps me.

I would separate the discussion into four parts:

  • Lens design. Ask for its exact name and reference. That lets you compare the same design in two quotations rather than two different sales labels.
  • Material and refractive index. Ask why that option has been proposed for your prescription and frame. I would not assume I need the highest index just because it costs more.
  • Coatings and filters. Check each extra's price and the need it addresses. Anti-reflective treatment, a tint and a photochromic option are separate choices.
  • The frame and its fit. Appearance is only part of it: the fit and the measurements needed for glazing also need checking. Choosing a nice photograph is just one part of the purchase.

Base, Premium and Premium Plus: understanding the starting prices

These are the categories displayed in our assistant. Here they are together to help you plan the lens part of your budget:

OptionStarting price per pair, without frame
Base with hard coatingFrom ~€280
Base with hard coating and anti-reflective treatmentFrom ~€350
PremiumFrom ~€440
Premium PlusFrom ~€560

These names alone do not identify a Varilux, HOYA or ZEISS lens, or establish that two categories include the same coatings. If you have a particular brand in mind, ask for the exact design and itemised quotation.

When would I pay more? When the proposal explains what changes, why it suits my use and how much it adds to the total. If the explanation stops at “this one is better”, I would still need more information.

Choosing without adding extras out of habit

Before discussing categories, I would explain what my day looks like. For example:

  • I work at a computer for hours. I would describe the distances to the screen and my other tasks. I would ask what solution is proposed for those distances before choosing a filter by its name.
  • I drive and spend time outdoors. I would ask to compare the quotation with and without the sun options that interest me, and have their behaviour in that use explained.
  • These are my first progressives. I would want to understand the glazing, how the fit is checked and what to do if I am uncomfortable.
  • I already wear progressives. I would explain what works and what I want to improve. That is more useful for choosing than starting with the most expensive option.

These questions help prepare a conversation with the team; choosing lenses requires an assessment of your own needs and measurements.

How to compare two progressive glasses quotations

If I had two offers in front of me, I would put them side by side and work through this checklist. I would ask for any missing answers before comparing the totals:

  1. Do they include the frame and both lenses? Write the two amounts separately.
  2. What exact lens design is listed? Brand, reference and included personalisation.
  3. Are the material, index and coatings the same? If they differ, you are no longer comparing the same components.
  4. What measurements and fit checks are included? Check what information is needed before glazing.
  5. What is the total with extras and shipping? Ask for it clearly in writing.
  6. What happens if adaptation is a problem? Check the procedure, time limits and whether the remedy is an exchange or a refund.

A lower-priced offer may suit you. What I would avoid is deciding from a “from” price without knowing what I am buying.

Where to save and what I would not leave unresolved

I would start by comparing frames at different prices and asking for each extra separately. If I wanted to keep an existing frame, I would first ask whether it can be reglazed and under what conditions; I would not assume every frame is suitable.

I would not pay a supplement just because its name sounds advanced. I would ask how it helps in my case. Nor would I leave the prescription, centration or fit check unresolved to make a budget work: those details need to be settled before manufacture.

What if I cannot adapt to progressive glasses?

I would ask this before buying. OpticalH's published policy provides for exchanges due to non-adaptation within 60 days, after at least 10 days of trial and an assessment by the team. This is an exchange procedure, not a promise to refund prescription lenses.

If you are having difficulties, contact the team and explain what you notice and during which tasks. If you have significant discomfort or cannot see safely, seek help without waiting for that trial period to end. To start the process, email info@opticalh.com with your order number.

How to prepare your OpticalH quotation

Start by choosing a frame, opening its product page and using the prescription lens customisation button. Choose the progressive option for near and distance vision. You can then view Base, Premium and Premium Plus, provide your prescription and review treatments and filters.

If you do not have your prescription handy, the assistant offers the option to continue and send it later; it states that the order remains subject to optical review before manufacture. It also offers a free quotation request and a route to speak to an optician. You do not need to invent any prescription values to proceed.

What I would like you to take away is straightforward: compare complete glasses, ask for the breakdown and choose according to your needs. Understanding what you are buying is more useful than an eye-catching price.
